TRENDS TO WATCH | CES 2021

CES kicked off 2021 with a bang. With a mix of newsworthy tid bits, positive outlooks, and impressive goals, 2021 might be an interesting year for the technology sector. So we took a look at everything CES had to offer and here are our top 3 trends to watch from CES 2021! Let’s get started.

1. Healthcares Race to the Cloud

With the rise of the pandemic in 2020, healthcare was scrambling to keep up. And it looks like they have made leaps and bounds within just a year. Technology has saved a lot of lives during a challenging past year and it will continue to do so. In just 15 days, telemedicine advanced ten times its normal rate. What should have been several years took just 15 days. It seems that with that growth, there is a continued trend to push forward with even more in 2021.  59% of healthcare companies expect cloud usage to expand beyond predicted due to the pandemic. And with that being a top choice, 83% are worried that security will be a challenge.

2. Cities in the Cloud

With Covid tracking becoming an immediate need, the ability for cities to become smarter and more technology integrated is needed now more than ever. Cities connected to the cloud can definitely help. Smart cities can provide infrastructure and tools that can solve unanticipated problems instead of simple bandaid solutions for them. By becoming my data driven, smart cities can use real-time data and results to drive policies and procedures. And it can easily increase the cleanliness of cities with voice-enabled devices as well as touch-less interactive surfaces to help prevent disease. While a lot of what was presented at CES 2021 in regards to this will probably never see the light of day, what will see the light of day does have one flaw that they are looking at, security.

3. 5G Global Status

With 5G being introduced in 2019, we have yet to see what it can really do. With low latency and always-on connections, 5G showcased the possibilities between it and the internet of things. From autonomous vehicles to the world around them, it will definitely be a stepping stone in the right direction. Verizon’s CEO called 5G the framework for the 21st century. And with cities going green and electric cars becoming a norm now, this could be the push 5G needs. The big issues lay in the rollout that 5G has experienced as well as security concerns being connected at every turn.
